The Institute for International Sport will bring together 1,500
young scholars talented in sports and/or the arts in Newport, Rhode
Island. Scholar-Artists and Scholar-Athletes from all 50 United
States and several countries around the world will come together
at the University of Rhode Island to share and celebrate their
individual talents and cultural diversity.
Students will share experiences on the playing field, in the art studio, in
group discussions about the Theme Day topics on stage, ininformal gatherings
at special events, or at fun nighttime activities. The Games will enable participants
to develop understanding, acceptance and friendship with peers around the world.
Programs will be offered in visual arts, choir, culinary arts, dance, symphony
orchestra, theater, writing/poetry, basketball, baseball, chess, field hockey,
golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track and field and volley
ball.
Port of Spain/Atlanta Sister Cities participated in 2001 when 2,200, scholars
from 151 countries around the world attended. We were represented by two scholars
from Fatima College. Of the 22 WORLD SCHOLAR-ATHLETE GOLD MEDALS presented
ONE came to us - , KESTON BARROW of Port of Spain. Our World Scholar, who is
now on scholarship at University in the United States, will be one of the resource
persons during the games in 2003.
Every effort should be made to have representation from Trinidad and Tobago.
